The interaction and corrosion protection properties of 2-methylbenzimidazole, 2-ethylbenzimidazole, and 2-propylbenzimidazole on copper in nitric acid at different temperatures have been studied by polarization, EIS, and adsorption studies. Experimental studies show that better inhibition efficiency is exhibited by 2-MBI but theoretical calculations of the inhibitor molecules suggests maximum inhibition efficiency for 2-EBI and 2-PBI. This may be attributed to the presence of increased steric hindrance in 2-EBI and 2-PBI which affect on the rate and efficiency of adsorption. The adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the metal surface obeys Langmuir isotherm.
