This manual is an appendix to the curriculum of interventional cardiology, which describes the training process to acquire the additional qualification in interventional cardiology of the German Society of Cardiology (DGK). Acquisition of the necessary skills for this qualification can be supported by qualified simulation courses, as long as the courses fulfill defined quality criteria. This manual describes the minimum criteria, which refer to the equipment (simulators and models), the temporal relationship between theory and practice, the instructor-trainee ratio and the qualification of instructors. Under these circumstances simulation courses supplement the qualification in interventional cardiology in an effective and meaningful way. When the requirements of this manual are fulfilled the DGK and the working group of interventional cardiology (AGIK) can undertake the patronage for these courses (“curriculum-accompanying AGIK simulation course”).
