Sm x BiY2–x Fe5O12 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) nanocrystals were fabricated by sol–gel method. Samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravity analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM). The samples were calcined at 850 ¡ãC and 1000 ¡ãC and the average size of the particles were determined by Scherrer’s formula . In this paper, we discussed the effect of Sm3+ substitution for Y3+ on magnetic properties of BiY2Fe5O12. The magnetic properties of Sm x BiY2−x Fe5O12 are decreased with increasing content of Sm ion.
