The effect of different heteropoly acids (HPA) on the catalytic properties of Pd–HPA/SiO₂ in the selective oxidation of ethylene to acetic acid was investigated in this work. The results demonstrated that a good balance of Br?nsted acid sites and Pd2+ ions stabilized by Br?nsted acid sites was an indispensable factor in producing acetic acid.
