A current challenge for the anthropology of food is to contribute to a better understanding of different aspects of nutritional problems. Because this is a holistic science that aims to grasp the full social and cultural complexity of the food system, the approach is to describe, analyze and compare interactions between nature and culture. This article therefore addresses human diet from a systemic perspective in order to initiate a discussion on the interactions between the different factors that govern certain nutritional imbalances and their persistence.
