Solution Stoichiometry Control for PureLiLaMo_2O_8Phases in Sol-Gel Preparation

The hydrolysis of solutions, containing either LiMo_2O_4(OPr^i)_5(^iPrOH) and“La(OPr^i)_3” or LiOPr^i andLa_2Mo_4O_8(OPr^i)_{14} in 1 : 1 ratio, in toluene or^iPrOH, by water solutions in isopropanol, leads to formation ofmonolythic gels. The latter can be converted by drying and heat treatmentat 600^\circC into a fine powder of pure\alpha-LiLaMo_2O_8 phase,which is transformed into\beta-LiLaMo_2O_8 powder by annealing at800^\circC. The sintering of the pellets pressed under 4bar pressure of \alpha-LiLaMo_2O_8 powder at800^\circC for 2 h converts them intopieces of \beta-LiLaMo_2O_8 transparentceramics, thus providing aroute to LiLnMo_2O_8 laser waveguide materials.
