Fractures in children differ from those seen in adults. This is due to different biomechanical properties of growing bones and to different traumatic mechanisms to which children are exposed. Especially in child abuse the traumatic forces applied to immature bones can lead to typical patterns of skeletal trauma. These patterns of accidental and non-accidental skeletal trauma in children are discussed in this article.
