One dimensional terbium oxide (Tbb>2b>Ob>3b>) nanotubes have been synthesized by using surfactant free precipitation method and investigated its non-enzymatic electrochemical detection for hydrogen peroxide (Hb>2b>Ob>2b>). The structural analysis and x-ray diffraction data confirmed the formation of cubic phase Tbb>2b>Ob>3b> in the synthesized Tbb>2b>Ob>3b> nanotubes. The optical property of the synthesized product was investigated by ultraviolet spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) studies. The PL spectrum of Tbb>2b>Ob>3b> nanotubes exhibited a strong green luminescence corresponding to 5Db>4b> → 7Fb>5b> transition of Tb3+ ions. The non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide (Hb>2b>Ob>2b>) sensing of Tbb>2b>Ob>3b> nanotubes/carbon paper modified electrodes in 1 M KCl electrolyte was carried out using cyclic voltammetry and amperometric (i–t) analysis. The enhanced electrocatalytic behavior was observed for Tbb>2b>Ob>3b> nanotubes with an excellent sensitivity of 875 μA mM−1 cm−2, linear ranges of 0.5–5 mM and a low detection limit of 5 μM.
