Background Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) play important regulatory roles during folliculogenesis. Theca-derived BMP-4 may be beneficial to in vitro growth culture of early antral follicle-derived oocyte-granulosa cell complexes (OGCs), which is lacking in theca-derived products.
