A new, efficient extraction chromatography method was developed for separating 239Np from 243Am in nitric acid solution. While 243Am in 0.1 M HNO3 was loaded on the HDEHP extraction chromatographic column, 239Np passed through the column and was collected. 243Am was eluted from the column using 1 M HNO3 and stocked for milking again. A process based on second-milking was recommended in the present work to prepare high purity 239Np tracer. The separation procedure is rapid and effective, and the radiochemical purity of 239Np higher than 99.98 % makes it is suitable for the preparation of 239Np tracer which can be used for determination of ultra level 237Np in the environment.
