Modified SAPO-11 zeolites were used as catalysts for the alkylation of phenol with isopropanol. The phase, structure, texture and acidized properties of samples were characterized by means of XRD, N2 adsorption/desorption, FT-IR, NMR, NH3-TPD and different surface treatment methods. It was found that B acid sites, which concentrate on the outer surface, play a major role on the alkylation of phenol with isopropanol. The sample shows high catalyst performance and phenol conversion and the total selectivity of o-isopropylphenol and p-isopropylphenol as 50 and 77聽% were achieved under the optimal conditions: reaction temperature聽=聽280聽掳C, WHSV聽=聽3.0聽h鈭?, catalyst loading聽=聽0.5聽g, n IPA/n phenol聽=聽0.8.
