In machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, the significant traffic load difference between macrocells and picocells is inevitable, which results in the problem that the access performance of M2M devices in picocells under access class barring (ACB) mechanism is far worse than that of macrocells. To overcome this problem, a traffic load cooperation algorithm is proposed to improve the overall access throughput and to homogenize the access delay by adjusting the traffic load distribution. And the arrival characteristics of M2M devices is analyzed to estimate the number of M2M devices of each cell in a cooperation set. After the cooperation, the ACB parameter matched with the practical stable arrival rate can be obtained by pre-estimating the stable arrival rate of each cell. Simulation results demonstrate that under different traffic intensity, the proposed mechanism can reduce the access delay of M2M devices in picocells while improving or maintaining the overall throughput.
