Carbidopa (CD), an important Parkinson’s disease drug, was successfully intercalated in layered zinc hydroxide (LZH) by ion exchange methods; the biopolymer of the nanohybrid by chitosan was further synthesized. The three ratio resulting nanocomposites displayed a basal spacing of 15.47, 14.77 and 14.85 Å. These ratios were analyzed via X-ray diffraction powder, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy, all indicating the successful intercalation of CD pristine drug into LZH nanohybrid galleries. In the experimental analysis, no changes were observed in the structure of the CD located between the LZH layers while there existed electrostatic interactions between the layers and the drug molecules. In pH 4.8, and 7.4, buffer solutions (acetate buffer and phosphate-buffered saline respectively), and in vitro drug delivery activity viewed by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, were examined and considered for the CD of LZH and chitosan biopolymer substrates.
