In this work, the performance of the induction motor under unbalanced three phase supply voltage conditions is assessed. This study compares the effects of scalar and complex modeling of voltage unbalance on the induction motor performance parameters such as torque, current, losses, efficiency and power factor. Different scenarios of unbalanced phase voltage magnitudes and angles are considered. It is found that the variation of the phase angles creates an unbalance and has an important effect on the induction motor performances which seems to be underestimated in the works reported in literature.
