I opened the last Bright Spots column talking about geophysics' broad diversity. As geophysicists we can and do play in a lot of arenas. The July–August issue of Geophysics supports this. In addition to its normal span of topics, July–August contains the supplement “Hydrogeophysics—Electric and Electromagnetic Methods.” Evert Slob writes that the supplement contains “more than 20 hydrogeophysics papers revealing properties and monitoring processes in the vadose zone and aquifers using ERT, SP, IP, ATEM, FDEM, NMR, and GPR (if you don't know these acronyms, more reason to open up the issue). The supplement discusses new methods and techniques and several case studies showing pitfalls, problems, limitations, and benefits.”
