Leaders of governments and private organizations around the globe are faced with challenges of unprecedented complexity. The rapid advancements in computer technology, medical sciences, and internationalization present social, economic and leadership dilemmas that are yet to be resolved. Corporate scandal, terrorism, war, and environmental degradation compound the challenge and the attendant uncertainty. Although the problems facing leaders have become more complex and unconventional leaders still rely on instrumental problem solving derived from conventional consciousness. Decision making in an interconnected world requires more complex and farsighted decision making. Paradigmatic and cross paradigmatic thinking is vital to the health and well being of humanity the environment. Such thinking is accessible at the integral level of consciousness.;Muhammad the Prophet of Islam achieved integral consciousness and was able to guide and mentor others such that they too realized integral consciousness. The leadership of Muhammad reversed Arabia's headlong trend toward self obliteration. The brief 23 years of Muhammad's leadership resulted in the transformation of Arabian consciousness. The Arabs previously dismissed as marginal, and uncultured by civilized society emerged as world leaders in business, culture, arts, and sciences.;This study presents the first integral analysis of the life and leadership of Muhammad focusing on his crucibles. I believe that it is imperative that the lives of leaders who have contributed in this manner to society be studied if leaders and trainers of leaders are to find clues to the resolution of the leadership crisis.
