In our studies of drilling industrial practices,we found that there exists no modern database system to assist a drilling engineer or manager in day to day decision making process at the rig site. Our objective,in this work,is to fill this gap by bringing to a common platform the various highly scattered pieces of engineering issues and management tasks related to drilling projects. To lay down a solid foundation for the drilling industry,in this matter,we have chosen the systems approach. It is with this approach that we formulated a model for drilling engineering and management for the purpose of assisting rig site engineers and managers. The major focus of the study has been to examine and evaluate the feasibility of applying the computer based relational database technology for efficient engineering and effective management of oil and gas well drilling projects.
