An investigation of adult motivation,participation level,and satisfaction with swimming as a sport leisure activity in northern Taiwan.

Since Taiwan is a subtropical island, the weather is regularly hot and humid during the summer season. People in Taiwan pursue water activities including swimming in their leisure time. Swimming is a perfect exercise for relaxation, physical fitness, physical rehabilitation, and health. It is an appropriate activity for both genders and all ages, from children to senior citizens. The purpose of this study was to investigate adult motivation, participation level, and satisfaction with swimming as a sport leisure activity in Northern Taiwan. A self-constructed survey questionnaire was developed an instrument for data collection. Descriptive research was conducted in this study. The subjects were swimmers from seven swimming pools/clubs 364 questionnaires were distributed. Disregarding those incomplete and ineffective ones, the effective return rate was 82.97% N = 302). The results revealed that swimming is one of the sport events that were quite popular in Taiwan. More than 67% of the subjects went to swim on a regular basis regardless of gender. Among the top eleven motivations for swimming, there was no significant difference between genders except personal interest, claimed by more female 84.1%) than male 71.7%). Overall speaking, those went to swim on a regular basis were far more satisfied than those did not.
