文摘
The Norte Chico region of Peru encompasses the Fortaleza, Pativilca, Supe, and Huaura Valleys and includes over thirty Preceramic (3000-1800 B.C.) sites containing monumental architecture. These sites are recognized by platform mounds and sunken circular plazas, temporary and permanent housing complexes. One of these sites is Caballete, in the Fortaleza Valley.

This project examines a small complex of terraced architecture on the east hillside of Caballete, Operación VI. The investigation looks specifically for signs of function and social hierarchy. The data were collected in 2006 and reviewed in the P.A.N.C. lab in 2010. The data include artifact statistics and spatial data, including site maps and previous reports. Methodology involves analysis of the data and spatial relationships, such as artifact density and distribution. In addition, intra- and inter-site comparisons are made. Data are reviewed and analyzed for evidence of function and social hierarchy.
