The purpose of the study is to explore whether humor is a useful tool to create a stronger sense of wellbeing between couples when one of them has been diagnosed with cancer. Current research indicates that cancer patients value humor as a way to cope with the diagnosis. Additionally, research indicates that couples cope better with stress if they can utilize humor in their discussions. Yet, scant research has been conducted considering the role of humor in helping a couple to cope with a cancer diagnosis. A diagnosis of cancer may result in both the patient and their partner experiencing psychological distress. This study utilizes qualitative research to better understand if shared humor can help couples' navigate the numerous stressors placed upon them by a diagnosis of cancer.
