The purpose of this study was to delineate various components of plutocracy and inequities in institutional arrangements of American imperialism to assess how these influences may underscore rap music and the spoken words centrality to the expression of minorities in and out of the academy. The research topic is,how does Plutocracy and Inequities in Institutional Arrangements of American Imperialism Influence the Educational and Emotional Discourse of Rap Lyricism and the Spoken Word and the Convergence of the Resulting Colloquies in the Construction of Lyricism for both Art Forms? Other questions addressed were: Is rap music a multi-billion dollar initiative strategically designed to sustain the status quo? Are plutocratic forces behind the corporate manifestations of the music industry that finances the production and dissemination of these expressive art forms? Are rap music and spoken word poetry powerful forms of the narrative that is climacteric to the construction of black identity in post-modernity? The research design of this qualitative effort employs the critical ethnography framework. Critical Theory is the theoretical approach and utilized grounded survey questionnaire results, interview responses, analyses of artistic content, participant observations, field notes, and a reflective journal. The three manifestations of rap and spoken word culture chosen for this project are represented through professional artists, college students, and members of the spiritual community. The participants consisted of thirteen multiethnic minorities between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five. The study revealed that there are many who believe that plutocracy has been an omnipresent current that has existed sub rosa throughout the history of society. However, the opening questions of this study remain open questions. Nearly sixty percent of the largest segment of study participants surveyed provided neutral responses to most statements pertaining to plutocracy. This made it difficult to fully resolve the issue of a plutocratic influence. Ideally, this research will add to the growing body of literature that calls for the elimination of social and economic conditions that may prompt the vituperations that often characterize the lyricism of rap music, spoken word poetry, and other forms of artistic and cultural expression.
