Equity impacts of airline accidents under share-code agreements.

Aviation accidents were studied using event-study methodology. After controlling for the impacts of firm-characteristic, accident severity, and contributing factor variables, I find support for efficient markets and show that investors primarily care about the severity of airline crashes rather than their cause. The findings suggest that share-code contracts, or operational agreements between airlines, may significantly reduce financial risk when aviation disasters occur.
