This study investigated the role of religious coping amongst victims who report trauma experiences and examined their psychological wellbeing as a result of using religion as a coping strategy. The participants of this study included both male and female adults who reported having some form of traumatic life experience and the related symptoms. Previous literature suggests that religion offers many ways to cope with stress related to trauma (Koeing, 2012). Religion is used extensively in United States and other countries in coping with traumatic life events such as chronic illness, death of loved ones or natural disasters. This study is based on the assumption that if an important coping tool such as one's religious beliefs can be explored early on, it could provide therapists' with another strategy for the treatment of patients who suffer from traumatic stress. A total of 108 individuals (18 and over) participated in an online survey that explored their religious beliefs, trauma experiences and subjective wellbeing. The results suggested significant difference in individuals who utilized negative religious coping and their subjective wellbeing. Based on the results of this study, mental health professionals should explore their patients' engagement in negative coping, and if so, investigate how it is affecting their overall wellbeing.
