A variational method for the description of the pressure-induced Γ–X mixing in GaAs-based quantum wells

The mixing between JV1HN-8&_mathId=mml6&_user=1067359&_cdi=6159&_rdoc=86&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=4713bdc2aabab017df7b3bc5c30d6ec6" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">Γ and 1067359&_cdi=6159&_rdoc=86&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=6bc5a6d3e25917f36f9c7bffe3156329" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">X conduction band valleys in GaAs–1067359&_cdi=6159&_rdoc=86&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=d94017fce63164248ce417551cad6bb1" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">Ga1-xAlxAs quantum wells is investigated along the lines of a variational model. Trial wavefunctions are depending on a weighting variational parameter that accounts for the mixing by acting as a coefficient in the combination of both uncorrelated 1067359&_cdi=6159&_rdoc=86&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=26ee23ca337ac98789f529268fab8154" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">Γ and 10">10&_user=1067359&_cdi=6159&_rdoc=86&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=904cfc852939596e91255735f4e43007" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">X states in the system. The dependencies of the calculated binding energy of a donor impurity and the correlated electron–hole photoluminescence peak energy upon hydrostatic pressure and quantum well width are presented.
