We present a preliminary study of the magnetoelastic properties in some compounds of the Pr
2Co
17−xFe
x series (
x=5.1,11.05). Volume magnetostriction and linear thermal expansion of Pr
2Co
11.9Fe
5.1 show a large anomaly at the spin reorientation temperature (
TSR
80K). This anomaly is not present at the spin reorientation transitions in Pr
2Co
5.95Fe
11.05. In contrast, the anisotropic magnetostriction shows a similar behaviour in both compounds. The results are discussed in terms of different contributions of the 3d and 4f sublattices to the magnetoelastic properties.
