摘要

Objectives

To determine whether the global manipulation (OAA) by Fryette modifies the space between the base of the cranium and the first cervical. Also to find out if manipulated individuals with an oral splint drastically improve their indications in relation to the controlled group.

Material and methods

A randomised, double blind, controlled, experimental trial, with three external evaluators. There was a control group (n = 22), and an experimental group (n = 22) which received the technique (OAA). There were pre-, inter-, and post-evaluations in each group, which included the active opening of the mouth (AOM) test and the pressure pain threshold of the myotome C1 (PPT). All of the subjects were given pre- and post-digital radiography readings.

Results

Statistically significant differences were identified in the digital radiography readings after the use of the manipulation technique (P < .05); thus there was an increase in the pressure pain threshold and the active opening of the mouth (P < .00) compared to the controlled group.

Conclusions

The technique (OAA) and the use of the oral splint produce radiological changes to (6.5) between the base of occipital and the atlas in patients with bruxism. In the opening of the mouth and pain threshold it was shown to be more effective than using the oral splint only.
