New molecular conductors based on EDT with anionic complexes of rare-earth elements: (EDT)2[Ho(NCS)4(H2O)4] and (EDT)3[Y(NO3)5

摘要
This work reports on the synthesis, conducting properties, crystal and electronic structures of two new molecular conductors based on EDT with anionic complexes of rare-earth elements, (EDT)2[Ho(NCS)4(H2O)4] and (EDT)3[Y(NO3)5]. The salts are characterized by a β-packing type of donors in the conducting layers. (EDT)2[Ho(NCS)4(H2O)4] is a metal down to 100K and (EDT)3[Y(NO3)5] shows semiconducting properties. The relationship between the conductivity behavior and the crystal structure of the two salts is rationalized on the basis of tight-binding band structure calculations.
