Formation enthalpy of intermetallic phases from Al-Fe system measured with solution calorimetric method

摘要
The solution calorimetric method was used for the determination of the formation enthalpy of Alb>2b>Fe and Alb>5b>Feb>2b> intermetallic phases. The phases were prepared in a very pure Ar atmosphere by melting the calculated amounts of Al and Fe in alumina crucibles. Their crystal structure was confirmed with the X-ray diffraction method. A very low amount of Alb>5b>Feb>2b> phase was found in the Alb>2b>Fe phase. The calorimetric experiments were carried out using an Al bath at temperature 1271聽K. The formation enthalpies of the Alb>5b>Feb>2b> and Alb>2b>Fe phases obtained at room temperature were聽鈭?0.5 and聽鈭?7.8聽kJ/mol of atoms, respectively.
