Personalised health education (PHE) for patients with epilepsy and their families consists in providing information as regards the disease, how to act when the patient has a seizure, and the precautions to take in the activities of daily living of a patient who has epilepsy.
This education is given by a specialist nurse, and is oriented towards the epileptic patients admitted to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona. The aim of the present study is to assess the impact of this PHE and the satisfaction of the patients and families with the information received.
Knowledge increased by 20%one month after receiving the PHE. The increase in knowledge of the disease was statistically significant in the patient group and in the family group. The satisfaction with the PHE received was very high in both groups.
