Magnetic dilution in the frustrated ferromagnetic pyrochlore system, (Dy1−xLux)2Mn2O7

摘要
To gain insights into the magnetic interactions in ferromagnetic R2Mn2O7 pyrochlores (yle="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6TVW-4PG872D-3&_mathId=mml25&_user=10&_cdi=5545&_rdoc=5&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=b69ca3014cbaebece92fe3e403d52d19" title="Click to view the MathML source">R = rare earth element), we systematically investigated the effects of magnetic dilution in the (Dy1−xLux)2Mn2O7 system by gradually increasing the concentration of nonmagnetic Lu3+ ions at the yle="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6TVW-4PG872D-3&_mathId=mml26&_user=10&_cdi=5545&_rdoc=5&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=4f43054f2ceeb43433def8eaef2e9818" title="Click to view the MathML source">R-cation site. Single-phase samples were successfully obtained for the entire substitution range of 0.0≤x≤1.0 through ultra-high-pressure synthesis. All the samples display sharp increases in both dc and ac magnetic susceptibilities below not, vert, similar40 K, followed by an appearance of FC–ZFC irreversibilities and broad frequency-dependent maxima at lower temperatures, indicative of a re-entrant spin–glass like behavior. With increasing yle="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6TVW-4PG872D-3&_mathId=mml27&_user=10&_cdi=5545&_rdoc=5&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=cb99d71884686f08691649808b39d0d7" title="Click to view the MathML source">x, both the ferromagnetic transition temperature and the cusp temperature in the ZFC susceptibility curve were found to get monotonically lowered. It was concluded that Dy3+–Dy3+ and/or Dy3+–Mn4+ magnetic interactions affect the magnetic properties of (Dy,Lu)2Mn2O7.
