Objective

This paper has aimed to evaluate the status of the physiotherapy in Primary Care (PC) in the city of Valencia in relation to promotion of health and disease prevention, establishing teamwork, research activity level as well as human and material resources.

Matrial and methods

An observational and descriptive study was proposed, obtaining direct information using a structured questionnaire with closed items in which different questions were proposed. These questions were to be answered by the physiotherapists who develop their professional work in Health Centers (HC). The sample is made up of all the Basic Units of Rehabilitation (BRU) of the City of Valencia.

Results

A total of 73.3%of those surveyed stated that they do not usually use teamwork systems. Furthermore, 86.6%of physiotherapists replied that such systems were not promoted by the HC responsible persons. Regarding health promotion and disease prevention activities, 46.7%of those surveyed stated that they regularly carried out those activities. Regarding research activity, 80%stated that they did conduct any research in their HC.

Conclusions

In accordance with the data results, this study highlights the lack of activities carried out through team working systems in the BRU in the city of Valencia. It can also be concluded that health promotion and disease prevention activities are rather limited in PC, while research is virtually non-existent.
