摘要
Principal results of the excavation were published in the American School of Prehistoric Research Bulletin (1975, 1977, 1984 and 1985) and the Document d'Archéologie Française (1995). The abri Pataud is a key site with regard to the first part of chronostratigraphical sequence of the Upper Palaeolithic of Southwest France (approximately −34 000 years B.P. to −20 000 years B.P.). In this rock-shelter, the number of artefacts from Movius excavation is estimated to be 1,5 million, corresponding to a volume of 800 m3 of sediments.

After the study and publications by Professor Hallam Leonard Movius and other contributors, in 1989, a multidisciplinary team from the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle Laboratory of Prehistory carried on the investigations related to this site, and obtained results about unpublished material from the very rich collections.

This study presents new results about the assemblage from level 3, in the upper part of abri Pataud stratigraphy, corresponding to final Gravettian (approximately −24 000 years B.P.), or Perigordian VI in the regional chronostratigraphical regional pattern. Following the previous study of tools assemblage (Bricker et David, 1984) the level 3 tools typology is characterised by a high number of microgravettes and truncated burins, the presence of truncated blades, the great importance and diversity of bone tools, and the low number of end-scrappers. All of these typological characteristics correspond to the flint industries and bone tools of Final Gravettian.
