摘要
A study was initiated to grow stoichiometric LiNbO3 single crystal fibers from 50mol%Li2O source material using the laser-heated pedestal growth method. Since Li evaporation from the molten zone was an important concern, the effect of evaporation on the crystal composition was analyzed with a mass balance equation containing the evaporation coefficient. This analysis suggested that the crystal composition should approach the stoichiometric composition at steady state as the growth velocity increases. The relationship between growth rate and crystal composition was extensively studied. The steady-state Li2O composition, which was determined by Curie temperature measurements, increased from 49.2 to 49.8mol%as the growth rate was increased from 30 to 250mm/h. It was shown that near stoichiometric LiNbO3 could be grown from 50mol%Li2O source material by minimizing the Li evaporation.
