The Histopathological Characteristics of Neurofibrillary Tangles in Atypical Presenile Dementia - In Comparison with Dementia of The Alzheimer Type -

Introduction: Cases of atypical presenile dementia which shows diffuse neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) with pseudocalcification, but few senile plaques (SPs) have been recently reported. NFTs are seen predominantly in senile and presenile dementias, and in many other neurological conditions, however, the relation between NFTs and brain damage is unclear. It is important to examine the tissue distribution and immunohistochemical characteristics of NFTs in the atypical presenile dementia, in order to clarify the correlation between NFT and brain damage as well as SP.
