Water is a vital resource - literally and metaphorically - for human life and for most human activity. As a resource it is largely undervalued, until it becomes scarce, when it could easily become something to fight over. Ken Sutherland looks at the role of filtration in increasing the availability of safe drinking water, and pure water for other purposes.
