摘要

Introduction

Mondor's phlebitis or thrombosis of the dorsal vein of the penis is a rare disease that can be stressful when it is not known, both for the health care medical personnel and the patient and relatives per se.

Clinical case

We present a clinical case of a 46-year old male patient who came to the emergency service due to mild fever, pain and penile induration. He was diagnosed and treated for isolated dorsal thrombosis of the penis. We review the pathophysiology of the disease and its treatment and update the literature.

Discussion

A differential diagnosis should be made. Its treatment may be quite simple. We should reserve the surgical treatment for the complications.

Conclusions

The rareness of this disease is made manifest as well as its easy management. We consider that the echo-Doppler is the suitable imaging test to perform a differential diagnosis. We should choose, in the first place, a conservative treatment with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, low molecular weight heparin. If there is no response, then we should resort to surgical treatment.
