XRD analysis reveals a single-phase cubic spinel crystalline structure for all the catalysts. FESEM displays an irregular-shaped grain morphology for e="mml31">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml31&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=71ecb65b201e7f025b142c81363fe936" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2O4 and smaller size almost cubic particles for e="mml32">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml32&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=7f90b44a72a88c5f570cc97516a33cb6" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2-xFexO4. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy suggests a chemical composition consistent with the stoichiometric molecular formula. Optically, the catalysts display an intensive light absorption in UV and visible regions with an onset at about 900 nm in the near IR region. e="mml33">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml33&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=97ff407af8abbc52fd0325eae10cce1f" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">Fe3+ doping constructively influences the morphology and optical properties of pristine e="mml34">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml34&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=101992cf9c86bbdf38e49ed1bd762f17" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2O4. All these physico-chemical and material characteristics infuse a facile catalytic function into the prepared spinel oxides such that the naked e="mml35">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml35&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=094cd4a9209ca24960dda05eb6602bff" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2O4 and e="mml36">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml36&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=e81480f1ebba1fffe278fecde8279499" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2-xFexO4 spinels exhibit a moderate to fairly good photocatalytic activity while the co-catalyst-loaded e="mml37">e="text-decoration:none; color:black" href="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_udi=B6V3F-4SG019H-1&_mathId=mml37&_user=1067359&_cdi=5729&_rdoc=4&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_userid=10&md5=989a6d590085634b52970004106c0b22" title="Click to view the MathML source" alt="Click to view the MathML source">CuGa2-xFexO4 spinel performs an exceedingly good photocatalytic activity with 15%quantum efficiency.
