Most patients designate their spouse or one of their children. Many worrisome questions are raised because the role of the trustee is not well understood.
We consequently decided to undertake action in order to: 1) explain the concept to unit staffs, 2) have physicians and nurses introduce the trustee appointment procedure and its mission to patients in the early days of their visits. We offer to meet with the patient and his-her trustee.
