摘要
The K枚nigsteiner working group on epileptology 鈥?an informal group of German epileptologists, attached to the German Section of the ILAE 鈥?discussed the role of three new antiepileptic drugs (AED), oxcarbazepine, tiagabine and topiramate, in the pharmacotherapy of epilepsies in infancy and childhood. Data from published studies were combined with own observations. Currently, only oxcarbazepine is regarded as a first鈥揷hoice antiepileptic drug. According to our experience, topiramate is a valuable add鈥搊n drug in various epileptic syndromes of infancy and childhood, but is still used mostly in combination with other AED by our group. The growing experience with this substance which seems to have few side鈥揺ffects in monotherapy may allow an even wider use in the future.
