摘要
Thin slab casting and rolling process, that started as a process oriented to the production of hot rolled coils of commercial quality products with low transformation costs, progressively evolved reaching at present production levels that are comparable with conventional plants both concerning quality and productivity.Key factor in such expansion can be identified in two critical areas :① the design of the caster, that represents in most of the cases the productivity bottleneck of the plant;② the design of the mill. This paper describes the latest features of the Danieli vertical curved caster ( that reached his 4th generation design) able to guarantee both ultra high casting speeds ( up to world record of 8 meters per minute reached in Posco Gwangyang minimill) and superior slab quality ( internal and surface),as well as the latest mill lay out solutions that allow to apply not only conventional rolling but also real thermo mechanical rolling ( for API grades production). As most recent application, thanks to the new performances available in thin slab casters, endless process ( i.e.the uninterrupted link between casting and rolling ) can be conveniently applied for the production of ultra thin gauges. The key process parameters allowing such process are explored as well as the relevant lay out implications.
