摘要
Tinplate is high-quality flat steel products used not only in the container field (food and beverage cans etc.), butalso widely used in machinery applications. Made of cold rolled strip, tinplate is commonly produced using an electrolytictinning line (ETL). In ETL, there are two tin plating processes, insoluble anode system and conventional soluble anodesystem. Nippon Steel Corporation Group is a pioneer in designing insoluble anode system. So far insoluble anode systemshave been supplied to 14 lines, including a number of high-speed lines with speeds of 450 m/min and more. Since the insoluble anode system was developed in the 1970s, practical experience of more than 35 years has provided major plantengineering. This has resulted in important improvements in the design of ETL facilities with insoluble anode system. The insoluble anode system has a number of advantages over the conventional soluble anode system. For furtheradvancement of insoluble anode system, next key challenge was to reduce sludge loss. Nippon Steel Engineering developeda sludge reduction system which was the result of the thorough testing and optimizing under operation. The sludgereduction system and automatically tin granule feeding system were dapted to recently ETL for Meishan works ofBaosteel project in China, where its effects were verified. Measurements in this ETL throughout the commercial production showed that 1.2% of the metallic tin fed into the system was lost in the sludge. This sludge generation rate is almost same as the rate of soluble anode system. By these systems, the tin consumption could be improved furthermore and the performance of insoluble anode system could be enhanced.
