Seismic is the primary mean for oil and gas exploration, but it is not achieve the desired effect sometimes when the geological conditions are complex.At this time, MT can be used as an alternate method to complete the work.But for various reasons, MT is not a required method in domestic and international oil and gas resources exploration.In order to prove the necessity that MT can be used in the exploration of oil and gas, we establish geophysical models of typical oil-bearing structure, and compute 2D and 3D MY forwarding and inversion and 2D seismic reflection waveform forwarding.Through the comparison of MT inversion results and seismic waveform result, we find that 3D MT inversion result is not only better than 2D inversion result, but also makes up for the lack of seismic result.Therefore, using 3D MT method is feasible and effective for oil and gas resources exploration.
