The research results about following topics were introduced in this paper: operation principle in Corex contrasted with blast furnace;causation of high fuel consumption in Corex process and measures to reduce it.There are two most important identities of Corex.The first one is that oxygen is used in Corex process instead of hot blast.The result is a too concentrated heat distribution in a melter-gasifier.Iron and slag temperature is too high and gas temperature is too low before post-combustion.Secondary oxygen must be used for a suitable temperature.That increases the oxidation degree of reduction gas and limits the metallization degree of DRI.Low metallization degree of DRI causes high fuel consumption.The second one is a stock column containing coal char in a melter- gasifier,which badly tampers with the permeability and symmetry of the melter-gasifier.According to the identities,measures to reduce fuel consumption were advanced : reducing the stock column to a suitable height,reducing oxidation degree of reduction gas,controlling melting rate at a suitable level and increasing the metallization degree of DRI.
