《西游记》中神话人物形象称谓的英译研究

摘要

译者们各自的神话观在从源语言到目的语的转换过程中,不可避免地潜移默化地改写或影响了《西游记》中神话人物形象称谓的英译,而具体的方式或媒介就是通过对翻译策略的选择和采用。通过对余国藩和詹纳尔的《西游记》全译本中神仙称谓和精灵魔怪称谓的英译分析,最后得出结论:勒菲弗尔的操纵和改写理论、韦努蒂的归化与异化翻译策略,再加上中国传统神话观,共同影响了对《西游记》中神话人物形象的翻译与改写。
        Translators' perspectives on mythology inevitably and unconsciously transformed or affected their English translations of mythological figures' appellations in The Journey to the West when transforming the source language to the target language by means of various translation strategies. Through detailed case studies of the translations of Gods and Spirits names in Anthony C. Yu's and W.J.F.Jenner's English versions of The Journey to the West, this paper finally comes to a conclusion: Lefevere's manipulation and rewriting theory, Venuti's domestication and foreignization strategy, and Chinese traditional perspectives of mythology have jointly affected the translations of mythological figures' appellations in The Journey to the West.
