The main problems of "one river and two banks " of Nandu River in Haikou are water turbidity, water system degradation, insufficient flood control and waterlogging capacity, lack of landscape and poor traffic contact, which have restrained the integral development of the two bank' s built-up areas. The priority of reshaping the "one river and two banks " is to carry out ecological restoration, including wetland restoration, water system connectivity, and sponge city construction. While restoring ecological texture, constructing a " T-shaped " urban spatial development pattern, improving water and land traffic system, and developing riverside industry comprehensively will accelerate Haikou' s development of an international riverside and coastal garden city.
