清代英国在台湾水域的水文调查

摘要
清代,由于中外贸易格局的变化、海上航线的变迁和对地理知识的需求,促使英国利用水文调查绘制台湾水域地图,编写航海资料。其中,18世纪末广州贸易航线延伸到台湾南部,英国随即调查这里的航海危险区。1842年五口通商后,欧美开始利用台湾东部和澎湖列岛的航线在通商口岸之间往返,英国水文调查的重点也转向台湾东部、澎湖列岛以及被视为加煤站的鸡笼。直到19世纪五六十年代台湾对外贸易兴起,英国才对台湾沿海口岸展开大规模调查,为对台经济掠夺提供地理信息。
