摘要
古近纪是中生代末大灭绝事件之后的第一个纪,哺乳动物迅速辐射成为陆地生态系统的统治者,亚洲被认为是众多类群的起源地.由于亚洲特别是东亚地区古近系中绝大部分是陆相沉积,且存在明显的地区差异,建立一个年代地层框架是认识古近纪地质历史和生命演化历史及相互关系的基础.古近系在国际年代地层系统中分为古新统、始新统和渐新统.以反映哺乳动物演化阶段的哺乳动物期为基础,中国的陆相古近系可以划分为11个阶:上湖阶、浓山阶和巴彦乌兰阶(古新统),岭茶阶、阿山头阶、伊尔丁曼哈阶、沙拉木伦阶、乌兰戈楚阶和白音阶(始新统)以及乌兰塔塔尔阶和塔奔布鲁克阶(渐新统).各阶具有明显的古生物学特征,特别是古哺乳动物学特征,为实际运用提供了可靠的基础.底界与统一致的各阶,其底界年龄值采用国际地质年表中相应的数据,即上湖阶、岭茶阶和乌兰塔塔尔阶的底界分别定为66.0、56.0和33.9Ma.对于其他各阶,利用现有的古地磁资料,给出了相应的建议值.
