Taking Qiongtai Ave. design project in Hainan as an example, the main points of the overall design and subgrade design of the municipal roads in the mountainous area are proposed. For the construction land, in order to ensure the comfort of non-motorized vehicles, the vertical slope shall be controlled by 2.5% of the maximum longitudinal gradient of non-motorized lanes; for agricultural land, the slope of the main line shall be controlled by 5% of the motor lanes; the auxiliary roads serving agricultural traffic shall be non-motorized.The maximum longitudinal gradient of 2.5% is controlled. The design of urban road subgrade in mountainous areas can be divided into six types:high-filled embankment, steep slope embankment,low-filled shallow excavation subgrade, subgradefilled excavation subgrade, soft soil roadbed, and bridge-supported subgrade. The lessons learned are expected to be used for similar projects.
