Small-group instruction is a challenge for teachers. The challenge might include time, class size, classroom management, resources, etc. This paper presents how small-group instructional approaches provide opportunities for learners to interact with each other in the class, and thus the approaches maximize students' intrinsic interest in learning. The study shows that the approaches are not only effective with younger children in elementary school classrooms, but also work well with middle and high school students. The study also finds that small-group instruction fosters social and academic interaction among students and rewards successful group participation in the learning of school subjects.
