Theoretical analysis was conducted on the structure of magnets and operating characteristic of a linear oscillating motor with side magnets. The specified force of the prototype motor is 24. 1 N / A obtained by experiment. In addition, the stiffness of magnetic spring was validated and measured at a series of frequencies under no load. The net cooling power of 9. 6 W at 90 K with input electric power of 170 W is achieved in a pulse tube cooler driven by this prototype motor. The motor efficiency reaches above 82. 5%. Finally,it's an alternative in the cooling for space- borne infrared focal plane and cold optic devices.
